Crease, 11/13/98 "P11_bathy_original.zip" is a gzip file containing the files P11A_bathy_original.txt and P11S_bathy_original.txt (in different formats) P11A: Expocode: 09AR9391_2 Chief Scientist: Steve Rintoul Ship: R/V Aurora Australis Ports: Hobart to Hobart, Australia Dates: 1993.APR.4 - 1993.MAY.9 "P11A_bathy_original.txt" is the original data, CSIRO format. Original filename: au9391.dep Sound speed 1498 m/sec used. Recorded every 10 seconds. "P11A_bathy_corrected.txt" is in Geological Data Center format and includes Carter-corrected depths. P11S: Expocode: 09FA693 Chief Scientist: John Church Ship: R/V Franklin Ports: Cairns to Hobart, Australia Dates: 1993.06.24 - 1993.07.17 "P11S_bathy_original.txt" is the original data, different CSIRO format. Original file name: fr9306pr.txt Sound speed 1498 m/sec used. Recorded every 5 minutes. Many gaps. "P11S_bathy_corrected.txt" is in Geological Data Center format and includes Carter-corrected depths. -------------------------- Complete P11 section: "P11_bathydist.dat" is the decimated bathymetry file, projected onto straight lines between station positions, used for plotting the vertical sections. "P11_sta_bdep.dat" is the station list, with corrected bottom depths as taken from the p11ssu.txt and p11asu.txt files (station summary files) -------------------------- Ascii Navigation format for the original data "P11A_bathy_original.txt" (one record per-line): decimal Julian date (dd.dddddddd) date (mm dd yyyy) GMT time (hh mm ss) latitude (ddd.dddd) "S" negative longitude (dddd.dddd) "W" negative depth (dddd.d) meters Ascii Navigation format for the original data "P11S_bathy_original.txt" (one record per-line): filler (GEN) date (dd-MON-yyyy) GMT time (hh:mm) latitude (dd mm.mm)S longitude (dd mm.mm)E depth (dddd) meters Format of the Carter corrected file, "P11_bathy_corrected.dat" (one record per line): lat (ddddd.mmm) "S" negative lon (ddddd.mmm) "W" negative dpt (dddddd.d) meters imo (ii) month ida (ii) day iyr (ii) year ihr (ii) hour imi (ii) minute ise (ii) second ydat (yyyyddd.hhh) (Julian date in ytk format) Format of the file used for section plotting "P11_bathydist.dat" ist (iii) station number (set to 1) dist (ffffff.f) distance (km) along section lat (dddddd.mm) decimal latitude lon (dddddd.mm) decimal longitude dpt (ddddd.d) depth meters Format of p11_sta_bpres.dat and P11_sta_bdep.dat station (iiii) station number distance (xxxxx.x) km along section latitude (xxx.xxx) longitude (xxxx.xxx) pressure (xxxx.x) dbar OR depth in meters ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Editing notes for P11 bathymetry: P11A 2 outlier depths removed decimal day ida imo iyr hr mi se lat lon depth 108.24456018 19 4 1993 5 52 10 -54.7649 155.0306 1517.6 105.83125001 16 4 1993 19 57 0 -53.0845 155.1296 1046.0 Used only every 6th good point since original series is 10 sec. Because of numerous gaps in the data the output file is generally more than a 1 minute time series. Removed all ship speeds less than 2 knots. Removed navigation reversals (latitude reversals on the 155E portion and longitude reversals on the 63S portion) P11S Missing depths from stations 21 to 23, so inserted the depths of these three stations (21,22,23). Removed navigation reversals (latitude reversals)
