P10 bathymetry: ASCII navigation and bathymetry data file was obtained from Hall via Crease on 10/15/98, Hall format. Expocode: 3250TN026/1 Chief Scientist: Melinda Hall Ship: R/V Thomas G. Thompson Ports: Fiji, Papua New Guinea to Yokohama, Japan Dates: 5 October 1993 - 10 November 1993 "P10_bathy.txt" is the original data, Hall format. It lists date time with slashes and colons delimitting fields. The data are apparently not Carter corrected. An assumed sound speed was not recorded, assume 1500 m/sec for processing. "p10_bathy_corrected.dat" is in Geological Data Center format and includes corrected depths. 1999.03.10 "p10_bathydist.dat" is the decimated bathymetry file, projected onto straight lines between station positions, used for plotting the vertical sections. "p10_sta_bdep.dat" is the station list, with corrected bottom depths as taken from the p10su.txt file (station summary file) "p10_sta_bpres.dat" is the station list, with corrected bottom pressures for each station, based on the p10su.txt file (station summary file) -------------------------- Ascii Navigation format for the original data "P10_bathy.txt" (one record per-line): date (mm/dd/yy) GMT time (hh:mm:ss) latitude (dddd.mmm) "S" negative longitude (dddd.mmm) "W" negative depth (dddd) meters Format of the Carter corrected file, "P10_bathy_corrected.dat" (one record per line): lat (ddddd.mmm) "S" negative lon (ddddd.mmm) "W" negative dpt (dddddd.d) meters imo (ii) month ida (ii) day iyr (ii) year ihr (ii) hour imi (ii) minute ise (ii) second ydat (yyyyddd.hhh) (Julian date in ytk format) Format of the file used for section plotting "p10_bathydist.dat" ist (iii) station number (set to 1) dist (ffffff.f) distance (km) along section lat (dddddd.mm) decimal latitude lon (dddddd.mm) decimal longitude dpt (ddddd.d) depth meters Format of p10_sta_bpres.dat and p10_sta_bdep.dat station (iiii) station number distance (xxxxx.x) km along section latitude (xxx.xxx) longitude (xxxx.xxx) pressure (xxxx.x) dbar OR depth in meters ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Editing notes for P10 bathymetry: Below are a list of edits made to the P10_bathy_clean.txt file. I am attaching a file ("depth.p10"), which contains the date (GMT), time (GMT), lat (south is negative), long and water depth from the onboard DAS (data acquisition system). Also, here is some additional info from a doc-file on the DAS: The R.V. Thomas Thompson was equipped with a data acquisition system (DAS) that provided real time updates of various meteorological and oceanographic parameters on dedicated monitors throughout the ship. Most of the data was continuously updated every two seconds but was logged every minute. The stored data contained sub-sampled one minute data with no averaging and was stored on the ships networked Sun system. Navigation data came from two GPS receivers, a Magnavox 1107 and a Trimble 10X. This data was also subsampled every minute and incorporated into the DAS dataset. A HydroSweep DS, manufactured by Krupp Atlas, provided bathymetric data for the DAS. However, this instrument was shut off during CTD casts due to interference with the CTD pinger. A Seabird thermosalinograph provided surface temperature and salinity data. The file that I am attaching has 39779 lines, one line per minute, apparently. But there may be gaps, as 39779/(24*60) = 27.6 days, and the cruise was 35 days (I think). If you need anything else, please let me know! Regards, Mindy Hall -- Dr. Melinda M.
