P06 bathymetry: ASCII navigation and bathymetry data files were obtained from John Toole via Jim Crease on 10/20/98. Three legs: P06E: 316N138_3 Leg 3 Harry Bryden May 2 to May 26, 1992 Valpariso to Easter Island P06C: 316N138_4 Leg 4 Mike McCartney May 30 to July 7, 1992 Easter Island to Auckland, New Zealand P06W: 316N138_5 Leg 5 John Toole July 13 to July 30, 1992 Auckland to Sydney, NSW, Australia "p06_legnbathy_orig.fnl" are the original data files, containing yearday, lat, lon and uncorrected depth, from Toole (in subdirectory bathy_original) "p06_legndep_orig.cor" are original data files with corrected depths without the yearday Note that some despiking was done on these by hand - see below (Talley). (in subdirectory bathy_original) "p06_legn_bathy_gdc.dat" are in Geological Data Center format and include corrected depths at all recorded locations. (in subdirectory bathy_gdc) "p06_bathydist.dat" is the decimated bathymetry file, combining all three sections and projected onto straight lines between station positions, used for plotting the vertical sections. "p06_sta_bpres.dat" is the station list, with corrected bottom pressures for each station, based on the WHP sum files (station summary file) "p06_sta_bdat.dat" is the station list, with corrected bottom pressures for each station, based on the WHP sum files (station summary file) ----------------------------------------------- Format specifications Ascii Navigation format for "file_bathy_gdc.dat" latitude (xxx.xxx) longitude (xxxx.xxx) unc depth (xxxxx.x) meters corr depth (xxxxx.x) meters month (ii) day (iii) day of the month year (ii) assuming 1900 century hour (ii) minute (ii) second (ii) Julian date (xxxxxxx.xxxxx) Format of "p06_bathydist.dat" ist (iii) station number (set to 1) dist (ffffff.f) distance (km) along section lat (dddddd.mm) decimal latitude lon (dddddd.mm) decimal longitude dpt (ddddd.d) depth meters Format of p06_sta_bpres.dat and p06_sta_bdep.dat station (iiii) station number distance (xxxxx.x) km along section latitude (xxx.xxx) longitude (xxxx.xxx) pressure (xxxx.x) dbar OR depth in meters ********************************************************* -----------------NOTES ON POTENTIAL PROBLEMS ----------------- ********************************************************* Leg 5 - very quick jump doesn't seem physical, but stays there -30.0771 153.7487 1766 -30.0774 153.7503 1786 -30.1036 153.7434 2463 -30.1071 153.7441 2588 Leg 5: backtracks were not removed originally so have done so now 2/15/99 Leg 4: Spike in decimated data 1.8304861e+02 -3.2500000e+01 -1.7547260e+02 5.8050000e+03 1.8306598e+02 -3.2500700e+01 -1.7557490e+02 4.3670000e+03 1.8308333e+02 -3.2500700e+01 -1.7567610e+02 5.4950000e+03 Might be OK in original data 183.0555573 -32.5004883 -175.5136414 5320 183.0590210 -32.5005875 -175.5339355 5120 183.0625000 -32.5005760 -175.5544739 4840 183.0659790 -32.5006790 -175.5749054 4360 183.0694427 -32.5006943 -175.5948944 4250 183.0729218 -32.5006485 -175.6151428 4540 183.0763855 -32.5005989 -175.6353607 5010 183.0798645 -32.5007744 -175.6554871 5120 183.0833282 -32.5006905 -175.6760864 5460 Leg 4 line 6122 spike, removed from fnl and cor files 175.8020782 -32.5073280 -161.8324738 5930 from fnl file Leg 3 spike removed from fnl and cor files -32.4823 -100.7415 3710 -32.4823 -100.7415 3751 -32.4831 -100.9346 2723 -32.4831 -100.9346 3710 -32.4831 -100.9346 3816 140.9166718 -32.4830894 -100.9346008 2740 removed from fnl file
